Dearica Hamby is the 2020 WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year

The WNBA announced on Sunday that Dearica Hamby has been named Sixth Woman of the Year for the second-consecutive season.

Many thought the Las Vegas Aces forward — coming off a phenomenal Sixth Woman season in 2019 — would start in 2020, especially with Liz Cambage and Kelsey Plum missing the season. Instead, head coach Bill Laimbeer brought her off the bench again and the Aces finished as the league’s top seed behind an 18-4 record.

Hamby again put up stellar offensive stats and made a huge impact on defense as well.

In 22 games she:

• Never started but averaged a career-high 28.3 minutes per game
• Averaged 13.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.68 steals
• Was tied for sixth in the league in steals per game
• Shot 47.4 percent from beyond the arc with 18 makes
• Scored at least 20 points three times and at least 10 in 18 contests
• Contributed a season-high 23 points on Sept. 13 in a No. 1-seed-clinching win over the Seattle Storm
• Recorded three double-doubles in points and rebounds
• Had four steals in two different games

Hamby received 44 of 47 votes. Riquna Williams of the Los Angeles Sparks received two and Bria Hartley of the Phoenix Mercury received one.

In honor of her Sixth Woman of the Year season, Hamby will receive $5,150 and a trophy designed by Tiffany & Co.
