Lynx host Aces in their first meeting of the season

The struggling Minnesota Lynx are at home against the Las Vegas Aces, who have won their last five games. The matchups in the post will be fun to watch in the league’s only game of the night.

In the only matchup of the night, the Minnesota Lynx (6-7) host the the Las Vegas Aces (10-3) on Friday at 8 p.m. ET. The Lynx won their last game against the Atlanta Dream on Wednesday but have alternated wins and losses over their last seven games. The Aces have the second-longest winning streak in the league, having won their last five games.

For Minnesota, Sylvia Fowles is coming off of a big performance that saw her score 26 points, record 19 rebounds and swat five blocks. For the season, Fowles is scoring 16.7 points, gathering 9.6 rebounds, and shooting 64 percent from the floor. Napheesa Collier leads the Lynx with an average of 17.1 points while Kayla McBride is scoring 12.2 points per game. McBride came through in the clutch on Wednesday, scoring the last two baskets, including the game-winner.

The Aces are led by A’ja Wilson and her 18.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Liz Cambage is scoring 12.5 points and collecting a team-leading 8.5 boards per game. She is also second in the league with two blocks per game. Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray round out the starters scoring in double figures, with 13.2 and 11.8 points per game, respectively. Kelsey Plum has been coming off the bench since her return from Olympic 3x3 qualifiers and is averaging 12.9 points.

Both teams are in the top of half of the league in paint scoring. The Lynx average around seven made 3-point shots while the Aces average five made triples. If the Lynx can defend inside and hit a few outside shots, they might be able to get the win.

Key to the matchup: This game will turn on the post matchup of Collier and Fowles vs. Wilson and Cambage. This is the first game for Kayla McBride against the Aces after seven seasons with the franchise. McBride could be an X-factor for the Lynx.
