ESPN News Service reports Los Angeles Sparks guard Riquna Williams has been arrested in Florida following investigation into a December altercation with an ex-girlfriend.
Williams has been charged with “burglary with assault or battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.”
She is being held in Palm Beach County Jail on $20,000 bond.
A local television station reported that Williams is being accused of striking the woman in the head and pulling her hair, and then threatening a man with a gun after he tried to break up the fight.
The WNBA is aware of the situation and gathering information.
Neither the league nor the Sparks have released an official statement. But given the way the Sparks have stacked the team with depth in the WNBA offseason through free agency and the draft, it will be interesting to see if Williams’ WNBA career continues with the Sparks — if at all.
Williams is a six-year veteran and was named WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year in 2013.
