The 2019 NBA All-Star Weekend begins today, as the best in men’s and women’s basketball come together NBA superstar Stephen Curry’s hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina to celebrate the game.
South Carolina and USA Women’s National Team coach Dawn Staley, along with Las Vegas Aces forward and reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year A’ja Wilson, are among the stars of the basketball universe descending upon this weekend’s All-Star festivities.
Wilson, who played college ball under Staley at South Carolina — and with Team USA this summer, culminating in the 2018 FIBA World Cup gold medal — will once again be on a Staley-coached team at tonight’s All-Star Celebrity Game.
In addition to the hometown favorites of Staley and Wilson, WNBA players from three other teams will make appearances in Charlotte this weekend as a player, a coach and a judge (see below). Plus, a handful of well-known women’s players and coaches are eligible for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, the finalists for which will be named this evening.
Here’s what’s going on this weekend and which women’s stars to look out for:
