On Monday evening, the WNBPA announced the reelection of its union leadership. The Los Angeles Sparks’ Nneka Ogwumike will serve three more years as WNBPA president, while Connecticut Sun free agent Layshia Clarendon will continue as WNBPA first vice president.
On her reelection, Clarendon stated:
I’m honored and thrilled to serve as the Union’s First Vice President for another term. This is one of the hardest jobs I’ve ever had yet take so much pride in representing and fighting for every player in this league.
Ogwumike similarly stated:
I’m humbly honored to be re-elected as WNBPA President. This is a role that’s afforded me a special opportunity to lead in and to leave a legacy.
In context with the approaching Dec. 31 extended negotiation deadline, the reelection of Ogwumike and Clarendon suggests a new, more satisfying CBA could be part of this legacy — or, more immediately, a continued fight for one.
PRESS RELEASE: @Nnemkadi30, @Layshiac reelected as WNBPA President & WNBPA First Vice President.
