In 2018, Phoenix Mercury star and three-time WNBA champion Diana Taurasi surpassed Tina Thompson for the all-time league scoring record. That feat — plus the many awards, trophies and gold medals decorating her 15-year career — likely weighed heavily in Swish Appeal readers naming Taurasi as the best WNBA player of the decade.
Halfway through Cat Ariail’s “10 Best WNBA Players of the 2010s” series, we paused to let our readers weigh in on the remaining five. Our poll, which ran on the Swish Appeal site from Friday (Nov. 15) to Sunday (Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. ET), showed that Taurasi had tough competition for the top spot.
Poll results
Presented with a list of 14 WNBA players who accomplished big things in the decade, respondents were instructed to select the five who they believe are the best of the last 10 years. The 566 poll respondents voted for:
No. 5 Candace Parker (54% of votes)
No. 4 Breanna Stewart (61% of votes)
No. 3 Elena Delle Donne (75% of votes)
No. 2 Maya Moore (86% of votes)
No. 1 Diana Taurasi (88% of votes)
Also receiving votes: Tamika Catchings (45%), Sylvia Fowles (39%), Lauren Jackson (18%), Swin Cash (17%), Lindsay Whalen (9%), Courtney Vandersloot (6%), Seimone Augustus (4%), A’ja Wilson (4%), DeWanna Bonner (2%).
Whether our readers’ responses align with Cat Ariail’s is yet to be seen! But the first glimpse into Ariail’s assessment of the top five will be provided tomorrow, Tuesday (Nov. 19), when her countdown resumes!
