NCAAW: UConn would be No. 1 overall seed if tournament started today

The UConn Huskies are No. 1 in the AP poll and No. 2 in the NET rankings and unsurprisingly would be the No. 1 overall seed in the Big Dance if the season ended today, according to the NCAA’s reveal on Monday night. The South Carolina Gamecocks, Stanford Cardinal and Louisville Cardinals would be the other 1-seeds.

The UConn Huskies took home the top spot in the NCAA’s Top 16 reveal on Monday night, followed by fellow 1-seeds in the South Carolina Gamecocks (2), Stanford Cardinal (3) and Louisville Cardinals (4).

The Cardinal were placed ahead of the Texas A&M Aggies (5) and NC State Wolfpack (6), who are both ahead of them in the AP rankings. However, the choice was not too surprising seeing as Stanford is No. 1 in the NET rankings. NC State and Texas A&M are No. 10 and No. 13, respectively.

The Maryland Terrapins (7) and Arizona Wildcats (8) were given the final 2-seed nods over the the Baylor Lady Bears (10), a dominant program in recent memory that is ranked No. 7 in the AP poll and No. 4 in the NET.

The UCLA Bruins (9) also came in ahead of the Lady Bears, while the Oregon Ducks (11) and Georgia Bulldogs (12) rounded out the 3-seeds. Neither No. 14 Oregon nor No. 22 Georgia is in the Top 12 in the AP rankings, though Oregon is No. 6 in the NET.

The Tennessee Lady Volunteers (13) were placed ahead of the Kentucky Wildcats (16) despite their recent loss to the Wildcats. The Lady Vols will take the good news after falling five spots in the AP poll to No. 21 earlier on Monday.

The West Virginia Mountaineers (14) and Indiana Hoosiers would join the Lady Vols and Wildcats as 4-seeds if the season ended today.
