Here are the game results for all of Thursday’s EuroLeague Women games:
Arka Gdynia (0-2) vs. Fenerbahçe (2-0)
Fenerbahçe’s depth of WNBA talent was too much for Gdynia to overcome. Sabally led all scorers with 23 points, Kiah Stokes tied Laura Miškinienė with nine rebounds apiece. Gdynia tested their opponent with strong ball movement — Barbora Balintova had a game-leading 13 assists to Sabally’s five for Fenerbahçe, who as a team completed 100 percent of their free throws to Gdynia’s 83 percent.
Final score: Fenerbahçe 80, Gdynia 70
Famila Schio (1-1) vs. TTT Riga (0-2)
TTT Riga, powered by Seattle Storm draft pick Kitija Laksa’s game-high 23 points, were close to pulling off an upset for a 1-1 record. Instead, Schio used its efficiency to hold on for the win with 58 percent shooting from the field and 44 percent shooting from 3-point range. Schio also came up big on the boards, securing 35 rebounds as a team to Riga’s 20. Sandrine Gruda (21 points) was the leading scorer for the winners.
Final score: Schio 76, Riga 72
ZVVZ USK Praha (1-1) vs. LDLC ASVEL Féminin (1-1)
Marine Johannes scored 38 points of Féminin’s 79 in a one-point loss. It is a win that Praha needed to avoid going down 0-2 to start the season. Teja Oblak led the winners with 20 points and defensive specialist Alyssa Thomas led all rebounders with 18 rebounds but also shared the ball for a game-high six assists. Brionna Jones, with a 14-point and 13-rebound double-double, frustrated Féminin’s offensive efforts with three steals and two blocks.
Final score: Praha 80, Féminin 79
Basket Landes (1-0) vs. Bourges Basket (0-2)
In spite of Alexia Chartereau’s double-double of 21 points and 14 rebounds for Bourges Basket, Basket Landes eked out a three-point victory — a first in the club’s history. A balanced effort got it done for Landes, with Miranda Ayim contributing a team-high 14 points, Valeriane Vukosavljevic pulling down 11 rebounds and Celine Dumerc recording a game-high six assists (tied with Alix Duchet of Bourges) and two steals.
Final score: Basket Landes 69, Bourges Basket 66
Spar Girona (1-1) vs. UMMC Ekaterinburg (2-0)
No surprise here! A team featuring Jonquel Jones, Courtney Vandersloot, Maria Vadeeva and Breanna Stewart utterly dominated a team starring as its only WNBA star Chelsea Gray, whose struggles from the 2020 WNBA season have carried forward into overseas play. Gray contributed nine points and three assists in the loss in which Sonja Vasic (23 points) and Giedre Labuckiene (12 points off the bench) were the only double-digit scorers. In the Ekaterinburg win, Jones led all scorers with 21 points and was accompanied by four teammates in double-digit offensive production: Vadeeva (19 points), Stewart (16 points) Alba Torrens (13 points) and Vandersloot (12 points). Girona secured 12 steals to Ekaterinburg’s six, but were otherwise outshined. As a team, Ekaterinburg out-rebounded Girona 41-25, shot 86 percent from the free-throw line (to Girona’s 71 percent). But Ekaterinburg’s offensive power — 58 percent shooting from the field (to Girona’s 42 percent) and 59 percent shooting from 3-point range (to the losing team’s 26) — was too much the Spanish club to overcome.
Final score: Ekaterinburg 94, Girona 67
