A few more regular season games were played on Wednesday and a few more playoff spots were decided. Here’s how it happened:
Connecticut Sun beat Dallas Wings for playoff berth, 101-92
The Sun cooked the Wings on Wednesday night, clinching their 2018 playoff spot with a 101-92. The Wings couldn’t overcome a low-scoring, 10-point second quarter and their fourth-quarter run wasn’t enough to beat a Sun team vying for their fifth-straight win. The Sun’s Alyssa Thomas scored 22 points, while Jonquel Jones and Jasmine Thomas both scored 17 points. For the Wings, Liz Cambage scored 29 points and Skylar Diggins-Smith was back in action with 18 points in the defeat. Although the Wings are on a six-game skid, they still are ahead of the Las Vegas Aces by two games to secure the last playoff spot.
Sparks get one-point win over eliminated Liberty for playoff berth, 82-81
The Sparks won a close one on the road on Wednesday night against the Liberty. The tight field-goal race ended with a pair of made free throws by LA’s Nneka Ogwumike with less than eight seconds on the clock. The Liberty’s Sugar Rodgers made a three-pointer with one second left, but it wasn’t enough. In the win, Candace Parker finished with 13 points, 8 boards and 6 assists, Chelsea Gray added 19 points and Ogwumike contributed 18. Tina Charles poured in 27 points for the Liberty in the loss.
