According to a press release from the Phoenix organization, The Chase is a “first-of-its-kind WNBA digital documentary series that highlights the journey of the 2018 Phoenix Mercury and provides unprecedented behind-the-scenes access that showcases their pursuit of the franchise’s WNBA-record tying fourth championship.”
In Episode 1, Mercury fans and basketball enthusiasts gain exclusive access to:
- preseason practices and the roster-cutting process
- the GM’s office on draft night
- Marie Gulich getting a special message from Dirk Nowitzki
- Diana Taurasi on the baseball diamond
- Taurasi with wife Penny Taylor at a Mercury Mother’s Day event

The Mercury missed the 2017 WNBA Finals by a two-point loss to the LA Sparks and are on a quest to avenge that loss, get back to the Finals and win another championship to tie the Minnesota Lynx with four titles.
The docuseries, which was produced “entirely in-house,” will run all season long and give fans unique insights into the on- and off-court lives of the Mercury team’s biggest stars, including (in addition to Taurasi and Bonner): Brittney Griner, Briann January and “the rest of the Mercury team.”
