The Atlanta Dream will face off against the Connecticut Sun, with both teams seeking to finish the preseason undefeated. The Dream won its first preseason game 78-61 against the Chicago Sky, while the Sun squeaked out a 68-65 win over the Los Angeles Sparks and a 79-58 shellacking of the Dallas Wings.
The Dream will be without one of its biggest assets, as Angel McCoughtry did not travel with the team. McCoughtry, the face of the franchise, has been practicing with the team. However, it seems Atlanta may be allowing the veteran additional rest and rehabilitation while the newer additions to the team battle for roster spots.
It has not yet been announced whether Chiney Ogwumike will play for the Sun. She had been held out of the matchup against the Wings, as the team takes a conservative approach with her return from injury.
This matchup will be the first time Nikki Collen faces her former Connecticut Sun team since taking over as head coach in Atlanta. Meanwhile, Sun guard Jasmine Thomas, who had a solid showing against the Wings with 12 points and 4 rebounds, will be playing against her former team as well: the Atlanta Dream, with whom she went to the playoffs in 2013 and 2014.
This contest will be a battle for roster spots, with players who had big performances in prior preseason games aiming to show consistency, while those who have yet to demonstrate their worthiness for big minutes will get another chance to do so.
