The Washington Mystics drafted Ariel Atkins with the seventh pick of the 2018 WNBA Draft. Atkins, a 5’11 guard averaged 14.9 points and 3.2 assists a game in the 2017-18 season. Atkins was a first team All-Big 12 and first team All-Big 12 Defensive team player in her junior and senior seasons.
Atkins will provide more perimeter defense for Washington this year. She will also provide three point shooting help as she shot 42 percent from the line. The Mystics don’t need Atkins to be a superstar or high usage player, so she may fit in better with the system that Mike Thibault is trying to build in his sixth year.
