The New York Liberty drafted Connecticut guard Kia Nurse tenth in the 2018 WNBA Draft. Nurse is the reigning WBCA Defensive Player of the Year. She averaged GGGG points a game and shot 44.3 percent from the three point line last season. At UConn, she went to the Final Four in all four of her seasons and won two championships in her freshman and sophomore years.
Nurse also plays for the Canadian women’s national basketball team where she made her debut in the 2014 FIBA women’s world championship. Therefore, she’s going to have to miss some time in odd numbered years for the FIBA AmeriCup, unless Canada wins the World Cup this year of course.
Teams can always use another three and D player in today’s “pace and space” era of basketball, so Nurse should be a welcome addition in New York where she also plays with fellow UConn alums Bria Hartley, Kiah Stokes, and Tina Charles.
