Delaware State women’s basketball coach Barbara Burgess was let go along with the school’s men’s basketball coach, Keith Walker, and football coach, Kenny Carter.

Burgess had a history with the program considering before she began coaching at Delaware State, she was a four-year starter for the Hornets (1985-89) and is regarded as one of their all-time best players in program history.

Since taking over as head coach for Delaware State in 2015, she led her team to an overall record of 17-69 overall and 12-33 in the MEAC over three seasons, including just 5-21 and 4-9 this year.

Assistant coach Kyle Adams will be Burgess’ temporary replacement for the Hornet’s remaining three games before the MEAC Tournament.

Mary Hill, DSU’s interim AD, provided a short statement regarding the terminations of Walker and Burgess:

“We thank coach Walker and coach Burgess for their service to the University and wish them well in their future endeavors,” she commented via the Delaware Online.
