The Phoenix Mercury have traded Cayla George to the Connecticut Sun in exchange for the 21st overall pick in the second round of the 2018 WNBA Draft.
Jim Pitman, Mercury’ General Manager, commented in a press release, “We loved having Cayla as a part of our organization and we wish her the best in Connecticut.”
The 6-foot-4 forward was originally signed as a free agent by the Mercury in 2015 and missed the 2016 WNBA season to focus on the Summer Olympics. George resigned with Phoenix as a free agent in February of 2017, and averaged 4.2 points and 2.9 rebounds in her two years with the team.
As George heads to Connecticut, the Mercury now owns three selections in this year’s WNBA Draft with the 8th-overall selection in the first round and back-to-back picks (20th and 21st-overall picks) in the second round.
