As released by Clark College, sad news recently hit Clark after learning the news of the sudden passing (Jan. 12) of women’s basketball player Gianna Janae Loville.

The athletic director Chris Jacob, at Clark released the following statement:

“As a department and college we are a family first and foremost. We strive to bring the best out of our student-athletes and they bring the best out of us. Gianna was a proven product of this model. She made our department, team, and all of us as individuals better and will be dearly missed.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Gianna’s family, her friends, and the women’s basketball team.”

Last week Clark was set to play a game on Saturday – just a day after the death – however, it was postponed until yesterday against Mt. Hood Community College.

Loville last played for the Penguins back on Wednesday Jan. 10 against Portland Community College where she contributed four points and two rebounds.

Next week on Jan. 27, a service will be held for Loville at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home.
