This season has been full of coaches and players making history almost every week.
Already this season two coaches have joined an elite class having won 1,000 career wins and as of today, a third on the season has accomplished the feat.
Barbara Stevens, the head coach at Bentley University (Division II) secured win 1,000 in her career tonight after her team defeated Adelphi to move to 17-1 on the season.
Stevens now has joined the late great Pat Summitt, Tara VanDerveer, Sylvia Hatchell, and Geno Auriemma as the only head coaches on the women’s side to reach this monumental level — she’s the first Division II coach to accomplish the feat.
Stevens has been the head coach at Bentley since 1986 and 842 of those victories have been with the Falcons while the others came when she was coaching at Clark (1977-1983) and Massachusetts (1983-1986).
Reaching this elite level is another accolade added to Stevens’ career as she has been a five-time Russell Athletic/WBCA Division II National Coach of the Year, is in the Bentley University Hall of Fame (2005) and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. Also under Stevens’ belt, is the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship after her team went undefeated.
