For the last two months, the Rookie of the Month award has been owned by Dallas’ Allisha Gray – not anymore.
The league announced today Atlanta’s Brittney Sykes has been named the Rookie of the Month for July.
Sykes really stepped her game up after being inserted into the starting lineup for the Dream. Among all rookies, Sykes is currently averaging 12.1 points per game (second behind Allisha Gray), fourth in assists at 1.4 assists, and 3.9 rebounds, also in second.
During the month of July, Sykes led all first-year players in points per game (17.8), rebounds(5.3), made three-pointers (15),three-point field goal percentage (38.5%) and minutes(30.6). One highlight for Sykes last month was a new career-high of 27 points and five assists in an overtime loss to Washington on July 19.
