‘Personal issues’ will cause Schimmel to miss 2017 season

The New York Liberty and guard Shoni Schimmel have announced Schimmel informed the team she will not be on the court for the Liberty for the 2017 season. Liberty Team President Isiah Thomas was supportive of her decision, and said she will have the full support of the team.

“We look forward to continue to work with Shoni during her time away from the game,” Thomas said.

Schimmel commented as well on the situation, saying she is grateful to the Liberty for allowing her to deal with some “personal issues.” She added, “I look forward to rejoining the team next year.”
