The coaching carousel is not over just yet, as a matter of fact, it’s starting to pick up steam once again.
Earlier this month, we broke the news that Old Dominion would be losing their head coach Karen Barefoot. And depending on whom you talk to, it seemed like this was an amicable breakup, as both parties were displeased with the other.
The Monarchs’ administration believes, that they should be back to glorious days of the past, but some question if the administration is actually committed to using the resources necessary, to resurrect it. Sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, tell Swish Appeal, that Old Dominion is only offering between $215,000-$225,000.
That number is perplexing, given the prestige of the Monarchs’ program, one would surmise, that they would be willing to pay upwards of $300,000, as that would be on par with many top-tier mid-major programs.
One rumor that has been floated is Old Dominion targeting Clemson head coach Audra Smith. However, according to multiple Swish Appeal sources, the Monarchs have a keen interest in Jacksonville’s Yolett McPhee-McCuin — a rising star in the coaching profession, who’s done fantastic things in her short tenure with the Dolphins program.
Multiple universities have inquired about McCuin, but the question remains, will Old Dominion be the first to actually close the deal?
