Multiple sources tell Swish Appeal, that Belmont will name DePaul assistant Bart Brooks as their next head coach. Brooks will replace Cam Newbauer, who departed for Florida on March 27.
The job was initially offered Ashland head coach Robyn Fralick, who ended up turning it down. The other finalist was Belmont men’s basketball assistant Mark Price. Price has no experience in women’s basketball.
UPDATE:
"We are extremely excited that Bart has accepted our offer to lead our women's basketball program," Scott Corley, the Athletic Director said in Belmont’s press release. "Bart embodies everything we were looking for in a candidate: high character, enthusiasm, passion for the players, and winning pedigree on the court. He is the right person to lead this program and build upon the incredible momentum it has achieved. I look forward to working with Bart and getting to know his wife, Charlene, and family."
For the past 11 seasons, Brooks has been under Doug Bruno with the Blue Demons, where DePaul has made it to the NCAA Tournament every year Brooks was on staff — one of only six schools to make 15 consecutive trips to the tournament.
On Tuesday, Belmont will officially introduce Brooks as the head coach.
