One Power Five job that’s been vacant for quite some time has been USC. Their vacant position has been open for well over a month, 41 days to be exact, but it looks like the Trojans are ready to bring some finality to the women’s basketball search. Late last week, they offered the head coaching position to Stanford associate head coach Kate Paye — who ended up turning it down.
According to multiple Swish Appeal sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, USC has offered the job to FGCU head coach Karl Smesko.
Earlier this week, we reported that Smesko was the apparent frontrunner, and was flown out to the LA campus on Monday. Another name that’s also in the mix, and a finalist, is former Trojan and current Long Beach State coach Jody Wynn — whom Washington is very interested in.
From our understanding, Smesko is pondering the Trojans’ offer, and will be letting USC know soon, as this doesn’t seem like it’s going to drag out one way or the other.
Stay tuned as this story develops.
