As with all things in life, things changes. And that’s the same when it comes to coaching searches, sometimes what looks to be inevitable, often is not the case. And that is what’s happening at USC, as they have now zeroed in on a candidate, that most would have never assumed: FGCU head coach Karl Smesko.

The Trojans renewed interest in Smesko was first reported by Dana Caldwell of the Naples Daily News.

According to multiple Swish Appeal sources, not only is USC looking at Smesko, he is actually was on campus today, with one source saying that Smesko was slated to meet with the players. The Women of Troy appear to be locked in on the Eagles head coach.

Earlier this week, many assumed, rightfully so, that USC’s top choice was Stanford associate head coach Kate Paye. And while Paye was offered the position, she ultimately turned it down, and is planning on staying in Palo Alto. Another name that we had been hearing is Beth Burns, and while Burns is a favorite in the athletics department, according to one source, Trojans’ AD Lynn Swann seems to want someone else.
