News of yet another firing broke Wednesday, this time coming out of North Carolina.
Davidson College director of athletics Jim Murphy announced Wednesday in a press release that the college and Savage will part ways after seven seasons.
“We very much appreciate Michele for her dedication and commitment to Davidson College and our student-athletes," Murphy said. "I wish Coach Savage and her staff great success going forward."
As head coach of the wildcats, Savage led her team to an overall record of 96-123 and a conference record of 62-64. Savage joined Davidson in 2010 as the 11th head coach in the program’s history, and made history herself as the college’s first female African-American head coach. She came to Davidson by way of Tulane, after spending nine years with the Green Wave as an assistant coach under Lisa Stockton.
Savage also had prior coaching stints with Cornell, Toledo and Chicago State.
Davidson College’s press release also states a national search for the next head women’s basketball coach will begin immediately.
