The University of Connecticut Huskies and Mississippi State Bulldogs were named the first and second ranked teams, respectively, in the final top-16 ranking for the 2016-2017 women’s college basketball year.
The Huskies are, of course, 26-0, and riding a historic triple-digit winning streak. According to the indespinsable wbbstate.com, they have the highest RPI (Rating Percentage Index) in the country at .7283. They have also faced the toughest-schedule in women’s college basketball.
Mississippi State is third in RPI, at .6882, having faced the 29th toughest schedule in the nation. They are 27-1, and only a few points behind Notre Dame for the second-best RPI overall. The blemish on their season was to #5 South Carolina, in a narrow three point loss.
Connecticut has three games remaining on their schedule, facing off against the final ranked team on said schedule on Wednesday, February 22nd, against 22nd ranked Temple. Mississippi State has two games remaining, facing off against their last ranked team in #22 Kentucky on Thursday, February 23rd.
