For the second time this year, the South Carolina Gamecocks have been snubbed receiving recognition for winning the National Championship. First it was not being invited to the White House in a timely manner while other champions were.
Now, USA Today has not recognized the Gamecocks. USA Today put together a slideshow to give props to the 2017 champions titled “Sports Champions of 2017.” The slideshow included 48 pictures and not a single one was dedicated to South Carolina.
In the mentions of USA Today’s tweet, plenty of fans took notice and were not pleased to see the team excluded:
Can you explain why The University of South Carolina’s Women’s Basketball team isn’t listed? Holy cow, this is awful.

I really need y’all to explain yourselves??? How could you leave off a team that won a National Championship in APRIL!!!! That’s before a lot of these other teams/athletes.....

Where is @GamecockWBB?????? CLEARLY someone did NOT do their job. This is appalling. Awful reporting.

And to no surprise, head coach Dawn Staley took notice of the snub, as well.
Can’t say you did.....but I’d much rather walk by the national championship trophy everyday in our office than being excluded from @USATODAY 2017 champions list. ♀️ ♀️ ♀️ https://t.co/NdRnQ1NAWZ
