One of the biggest games in women’s college basketball takes place on Sunday between (3) Notre Dame and (1) Connecticut. However, during Tuesday’s practice, Notre Dame lost freshman Mikayla Vaughn to an ACL injury in her left leg as her team prepared for the big Sunday Showdown.
Vaughn had played in the first six games and was already ranked fourth in the ACC with a 62% shooting percentage. The dynamic freshman also averaged the fifth most points per game (8.0) and rebounds (4.3) on the team.
This High School All- American will be deeply missed on the court -not only for this Sunday’s match-up, but for the rest of the season as well.
Now with Vaughn no longer in the rotation, the Fighting Irish is left with a mere-eight active scholarship players. This isn’t the first player Notre Dame player hurt this season as Mychal Johnson has torn her ACL this year and Brianna Turner is missing the year as well to continue rehabbing her ACL tear sustained near the end of the season last year.
