Earlier this week, Kim Mulkey shared a post via social media sharing her daughter — and assistant coach — Makenzie Fuller was pregnant and Mulkey would become a grandmother. However, in that same most Mulkey disclosed the unborn baby, named Scout, was dealing with two life-threatening birth defects.
The team announced the heartbreaking news that Fuller did lose her baby yesterday and Mulkey would not be with the team traveling to California for its game against UCLA tomorrow.
"Makenzie and Clay have had a difficult pregnancy. And on Thursday, Makenzie lost baby Scout," said Associate head coach Bill Brock in a press release. "As any mother should be, (Mulkey) is with her right now by her side."
In the absence of Mulkey, Brock will coach the team tomorrow.
"Clay and Makenzie covet your prayers, and I promise you this basketball team is going to go on the road and do their best to take care of business,” Brock said before the team boarded the plane Friday.
