Surprising death of family member motivates OSU’s Goodwin

Tuesday night, Loryn Goodwin was on a mission as she filled the entire stat sheet for the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, as she was inspired by a family tragedy.

Stillwater, OK -- Loryn Goodwin and Kaylee Jensen, were the stars of the Cowgirl’s offense Tuesday night as Oklahoma State secured its second victory of the season after defeating Wichita State, 91-67.

The Cowgirls had a record-setting first quarter shooting 13-18 from the floor for 33-points.

Goodwin and Jensen lead the Cowgirls with a combined 43 points, and freshman Braxton Miller contributed 13. Goodwin also recorded seven assists, six rebounds, and five steals.

The game was bigger than basketball for Goodwin who after the win Tweeted the victory was “for her family.” Goodwin is the younger cousin of Marquise Goodman, a player for the San Fransico 49ers, who he and his wife heartbreakingly lost their child over the weekend due to pregnancy complications. He had an emotional game Sunday and now his cousin did too — attributing the win to the lost life.

Oklahoma State returns to action against UTRGV at 7 p.m. Friday at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
