Sluggish start doesn’t stop Rams from defeating Gonzaga

Colorado State only scored a mere nine points in the opening period. However, with a new attitude in the second and tighter defense in the third, erased its deficit and to capture its first win of the 2017-2018 season.

Fort Collins, CO -- What a special night it is to be a Colorado State fan after the Rams collected a big 65-49 win over the reigning WCC champions, Gonzaga.

"That was a great win against a good Gonzaga team that's probably not going to lose too many games this year," stated Rams’ head coach Ryun Williams after the game.

Colorado State was trailing the majority of the first quarter and it did not look good for the team. In fact, they were down 20-9 to the Bulldogs. However, if tonight proves one thing, it is one period does not determine the outcome of the game.

The Rams came back on Gonzaga behind a strong showing from a handful of players. Colorado State had five players in the double digits, yet none had a more impressive stat line than Annie Brady. She had 11 points and 15 rebounds in only 19 minutes of action off the bench.

Jill Barta was the leading scorer for the Bulldogs with 14 points.

With a big win under its belt, Colorado State will use this momentum in its next game on Thursday against Eastern New Mexico. Gonzaga will look to bounce back on the road against Montana on Saturday.
