According to The Independent Florida Alligator, University of Florida guard, Corey Staples, suffered an ACL tear during the team’s first practice.
Staples appeared at Monday’s practice wearing a brace. The timetable for her surgery will be determined by the UF medical staff upon a reduction in her swelling.
Staples’ injury is a tough break for both Gators first-year head coach, Cameron Newbauer, and the rest of the UF squad.
“She was gonna play,” Coach Newbauer said following Monday’s practice.
Hailing from Buford, Georgia, the junior transfer averaged 12.4 points for Santa Fe College last season. She also earned second-team All-Mid-Florida Conference honors.
