Another award was announced by the league today, as Sylvia Fowles was named Defensive Player of the Year. This is the third time in her career she has won the award, as she won in 2011 and 2013.
The Minnesota Lynx are one of the top -rated defensive teams in the league, so it is no surprise that one of their players would win defensive player of the year.
Fowles has been a strong anchor for the Lynx defense this year averaging 8.5 rebounds per game (fifth in the league), 1.3 steals per game and 1.8 blocks per game (fifth in the league).
Her efficiency on the defensive end was always consistent for Minnesota. She finished the regular season fifth in both defensive rating at 94.7 and rebound percentage at 18.3 percent. Fowles also came in eighth in defensive rebound percentage 24.9 and second in block percentage at 5.1.
