Isiah Thomas, team president for the New York Liberty, announced today the team has acquired All-Star guard Shoni Schimmel from the Atlanta Dream. The Dream will get the Liberty's second round pick in the 2017 Draft.

Thomas stated this on Schimmel coming to New York:

"Shoni Schimmel has demonstrated she can shine on a big stage, and I am confident that with the leadership on our coaching staff and on our team she will thrive as a member of the New York Liberty playing at Madison Square Garden.

"Shoni is good fit for our style of play. Her long-range shooting will really allow us to spread the floor on the offensive end. She takes pride in giving back to the community, and she shares the same core values we look for in every member of our team."

Schimmel will bring her three-point shooting ability to the Liberty, as well as her fancy and impressive passing. The Dream drafted her in 2014 in the first round of the WNBA draft, number eight overall. In her two years in the league, she has been a two-time All-Star winning the Most Valuable Player of the All-Star game in 2014.

In her professional career, she has averaged 8.0 ppg, 3.4 apg, and 1.5 three-pointers per game. Last season she shot 38.3% from behind the three-point line while averaging 7.6 ppg and 3.2 apg.

Back in August of 2014, Schimmel recorded her career-high 24 points against the Phoenix Mercury. There have been three separate games where she has hit five three-pointers.
