It was reported today by Arizona that they would no longer keep Niya Butts as the head coach of their women's basketball team next season. However, she will coach the team when the PAC-12 conference tournament starts later this week. Butts' contract was set to be concluded this June. The Wildcats enter the tournament as a #11 seed, facing Oregon on Thursday.

In her career at Arizona, Butts has an overall record of 101-146, and 34-110 in PAC-12 play. While athletic director Greg Byrne stated he cares for her and her staff, the results on the court where not making the cut to remain on staff.

Immediately effective, Byrne and Arizona will search for a replacement coach. On the list so far to fill the hole, is Ryun Williams (Colorado State), JR Payne (Santa Clara), Mandy Close (Oregon State), Julie Brase Hairgrove (Phoenix Mercury), as well as, Todd Holthaus currently at Pima College, but was a former assistant coach.
