In what is probably the least surprising move of the off-season, the Seattle Storm have announced the re-signing of legendary point guard Sue Bird to a multi-year deal.
"I am thrilled to be re-signing with the Storm." Said Bird. "This franchise and city have been incredibly supportive throughout my career, and I am looking forward to getting back to work with my teammates."
The two-time champion and three-time Olympic gold medalist is entering her 15th season in the WNBA and has spent all of them with Seattle.
"Sue’s commitment to this team and to the city of Seattle is unprecedented," stated Storm GM Alisha Valavanis. "It’s special for a professional athlete to leave a legacy with one franchise. We’re grateful she will continue to lead the Storm."
This off-season Bird has been openly acknowledging that she is coming to the end of her playing career and has stated on multiple occasions that she will decide before each season if she will continue playing. Never the less, the heart of the Storm franchise inked a multi-year contract ensuring that whenever she does decide to retire it will be as a member of the Seattle Storm.
