Fever give Dream headache, score 106 in rout

The Indiana Fever score 106 points in their 29-point blowout of the Atlanta Dream.

Tonight at Bankers Life's Fieldhouse, the fourth-place Indiana Fever were taking on the sixth-place Atlanta Dream. Indiana was looking for their seventh straight home victory and continued their winning ways with a 106-77. With the loss, the Dream losing streak on the road increased to five games.

For the Fever, forward Marissa Coleman led the way with 19 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity strike. Tamika Catchings also had a fantastic game with 18 points in 23 minutes and grabbing six rebounds. On the other hand, Atlanta's Angel McCoughtry led all scorers in the game with 23 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the field.

From the tip-off, the Fever got the scoring going with Briann January knocking down a three-pointer. Then the Dream tied the game up at 3-3 after Roneeka Hodges a three. Both teams went back and forth until the Fever took the lead 10-9 after January went to the line knocking down two free throws.

The Dream retook the lead 14-12  with 6:11 to go after Hodges dialed it up from distance again. At that point, Hodges had six points in the game. However, the Fever came right back as Catchings knocked down a three-pointer to retake the lead 15-14.

With 4:54 to go in the opening quarter and the Dream down 17-14, all-star guard Shoni Schimmel knocked down a three-pointer to the game up at 17-17. Indiana would increase their lead late in the first by three points, 25-22 after Coleman went made two free throws at the line. Then with 2:27 to go, the Dream tied the game up at 25-25 thanks to a three-pointer from DeLisha Milton-Jones.

January would end the first quarter with nine points as the Dream and Fever would be tied up at 30-30.

In the second quarter, both teams continued to go back and forth until the Fever opened a 40-34 after a Catchings layup. But McCoughtry came back down the court to cut Indiana's lead to for with 4:26 to go in the first half.

For about two minutes, both teams struggled with missed shots and turnovers. McCoughtry finally broke the scoring drought with a layup, giving her nine points and putting the Dream down 42-39. However, the Fever would go on a 5-1 run to end the half to lead 47-40.

To open the third quarter, the Schimmel turned the ball which resulted in a Shenise Johnson layup to increase Indiana's lead to 49-40. The Fever would lead by double digits for the first time with 8:12 to go after Catchings knocked down two free throws.

Once, the Fever got into their lead in double digits, they looked back pushing it up to 15 points, 57-42. Catchings and Coleman dominated the third quarter helping to put the game slowly away. With 4:35 left in the third frame, Coleman dialed it up from distance to make the score 67-48. At that point in the game, she had 15 points.

McCoughtry continued to fight for the Dream as she scored six straight points to give her 17 points. Then, Atlanta tried to cut into the lead with Hodges knocking down two straight three-pointers but it was just too much Fever tonight.

At the end of the third quarter, the Fever led 77-62 and in the fourth quarter outscored Atlanta 29-15.

With tonight's win, the Fever are now 12-9 and .5 game behind the third place Washington Mystics. For the Dream, the struggles continue as they are now 7-14 with a six-game losing streak.
