Two-time SEC Player of the Year Tiffany Mitchell has undergone minor foot surgery, but is expected to be ready for the season opener, according to the university.
Here is some of the release:
South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley announced today that senior guard Tiffany Mitchell underwent a successful small surgical procedure early last week to address a stress related injury to her left foot. University of South Carolina Athletics Medical Director, Dr. Jeffrey Guy, will re-evaluate Mitchell over the next several weeks as she begins her rehabilitation. The foot injury, which Guy discovered after following up on the ankle sprain she suffered while competing with USA Basketball in an exhibition game leading up to the Pan American Games, is not expected to delay her return for the 2015-16 season.
Mitchell has been an extrinsic force for the Gamecocks, especially offensively, and is expected to be a high first-round draft pick in next year's WNBA Draft.
