Michala Johnson forgoes WNBA and New York Liberty, will return to school

The New York Liberty will have to wait an extra year for third-round pick Michala Johnson. Johnson, a 6-foot-3 center, has received a medical redshirt hardship waiver, and will go back to the Badgers for her sixth year of eligibility.

In an unprecedented move, New York Liberty third-round pick, Michala Johnson, has decided to go back to Wisconsin for her sixth year of eligibility, after the NCAA granted her a medical redshirt.

Last month, the Liberty made a surprise pick in the third-round, with the selection of Johnson. It's not because of physical ability that it was a surprise, because Johnson's combination of length, skill and athleticism are unassailable, but more so her health has come into question.

The 6-foot-3 center injured her ACL earlier this season.
