Chicago Sky All-Star Sylvia Fowles has requested a trade per a report in the Chicago Tribune. The 6-foot-6 center is one of the best players in the WNBA, and has been the cornerstone for the Sky for many years.
Here is part of the report:
"The two-time Defensive Player of the Year and three-time All-Star has requested a trade, the team said Monday. Coach and general manager Pokey Chatman said Fowles has a specific team in mind but declined to identify the franchise as the team explores options.
"Syl expressed interest in only going to one team," Chatman said, adding that the teams have exchanged proposals over the last two months. "She felt like wanted to try something new."
Fowles declined to comment through her agent.
This news is a huge blow for the Sky, especially with them making it to the WNBA Finals last year. With the addition of hometown superstar Cappie Pondexter, many felt that this could be the team to beat in the Eastern Conference -- and a team with a realistic shot to win the WNBA Championship.
But this offseason has been full of surprises and changes, and this just adds another layer to it all.
