Last week, we wrote about how North Florida was having to start over in their coaching search, as assistant coaches Lance White and Jeff Osterman pulled their name out of consideration. Well, it didn't take long for the Ospreys to find the candidate they wanted to be their next head coach.
North Florida is set to hire Miami (FL) assistant coach Darrick Gibbs, per multiple sources. Gibbs, who was in his 10th year with the Hurricanes, helped them reach the postseason for the fifth consecutive year.
He's well-known for his recruiting and player development skills. Gibbs will replace long-time Ospreys head coach, Mary Tappmeyer, who was with the program since its inception.
Other candidates that were brought on campus, to interview for the position, were Indiana assistant Todd Starkey and Mercer assistant Angie Nelp.
