It's been a tough week and a half for Notre Dame head coach Muffet McGraw. First, the Fighting Irish lost the National Championship Game, to their bitter rival UConn for the second consecutive year. Then to compound things, Jewell Loyd made the surprise decision to enter this year's WNBA Draft.
To say that McGraw was caught off-guard, blindsided and stunned would be apropos. Here's some of what she had to say at Notre Dame's Banquet, when she spoke with WDUI 16:
"I was shocked," McGraw said Tuesday before the Notre Dame Banquet, speaking for the first time publicly about the situation
. "It was a real blow. It was a bad day. We're incredibly disappointed in so many ways."
"I think I was numb--I couldn't really talk to her about it. She didn't really give us an opportunity
to talk her out of it because the deadline was the very next day to declare so it was unfortunate with the timing, wish we had time when she made the decision which was apparently a couple weeks before."
Loyd is projected to be either the No. 1 or No. 2 pick in this year's draft.
