NCAA Women's Tournament Bracket: Arkansas Lady Razorbacks preview

Can the Razorbacks make noise?

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Who? The Lady Razorbacks of Arkansas. Sometimes Lady 'backs for short. Occasionally Hogs, but I wouldn't recommend saying that around most of them.

When do they play in the first round? The Razorbacks will play Northwestern on Friday, March 20 at 12 p.m. ET.

What? Named after a coach's description of his football team. There's also a family of costumed mascots.

Where? Fayetteville, Arkansas, the third largest city in the state.

Why? I have spent most of the night asking this question, in somewhat less family-friendly words.

How? They were an at-large selection.

Surprise? Predicted to finish eleventh in the conference, they tied with Georgia for ninth, nine games back of South Carolina and Tennessee.

RPI: 41

SOS: 6

Record: 17-13 (6-10 SEC)

Good wins: Iowa in Las Vegas.

Bad losses: At Florida.

Who's running this show? Jimmy Dykes, since 2014. He's a former ESPN commentator.

Extra, Extra! The Democrat-Gazette.

Sophomore forward Jessica Jackson leads the Razorbacks at 14.9 points per game, aided by classmate Kelsey Brooks's 14.1. Senior forward Jhasmin Bowen adds 10.8 to round out the double-figures. Senior Callie Berna runs the show at just over five assists per game (along with around five points and five steals).
