Who? The Green Wave of Tulane.
When do they play in the first round? They play Mississippi State on Friday, March 20 at 2:30 p.m. ET.
What? They picked up the Green Wave nickname from a football song. Riptide is a pelican.
Where? New Orleans, Louisiana, hometown of Homer Plessy (as in Plessy vs. Ferguson).
Why? RPI, I guess? I didn't think Tulane was going to make it until South Florida was put in UConn's region.
How? They were an at-large selection.
Surprise? Predicted to finish fourth in the conference, they tied for fifth with East Carolina, seven games behind UConn.
RPI: 50
SOS: 70
Record: 22-10 (11-7 American)
Good wins: At LSU.
Bad losses: At SMU.
Who's running this show? Lisa Stockton, since 1994. She just hit a major coaching milestone.
Extra, Extra! The Times-Picayune.
Freshman guard Kolby Morgan is the only Tulane player averaging double figures, at 12.0 points on the season- but phenomenal balance is the key to this team. Four different players led the Green Wave in scoring in their last four games, and none were Morgan. You never know whose number is going to come up, whether it's senior Danielle Blagg, sophomore Leslie Vorpahl, or one of the five Tulane players averaging between five and seven points on the year.
