NCAA Women's Tournament Bracket: Boise State Broncos preview

Are the Broncos peaking at the right time?

Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

Who? The Broncos of Boise State.

When do they play in the first round? They play Tennessee on Saturday, March 21 at 1:30 p.m. ET. Given that the Broncos' football team is known for upsets and trick plays, maybe this team could have something up their sleeves too?

What? It was pretty much cattle country in the '30s, so the students chose a horse. Boise has an interesting collection of mascot images.

Where? Boise, Idaho, which is actually one of the top 100 most populous US cities.

Why? They won the Mountain West conference tournament.

How? The Broncos' leading scorer, Deanna Weaver, was held to six points- but three of her teammates put up double figures, led by the 18 points of Yaiza Rodriguez, to beat New Mexico 66-60 despite the 23 points of Antiesha Brown.

Surprise? Predicted to finish second in the conference, they finished fourth, four games behind Colorado State.

RPI: 124

SOS: 261

Record: 22-10 (14-7 Mountain West)

Good wins: Colorado State.

Bad losses: At Southern Utah.

Who's driving this thing? Gordy Presnell, since 2005. He spent a long time at Seattle Pacific.

Extra, Extra! The Idaho Statesman.

Senior swingman Deanna Weaver, and former Oregon Duck, leads the Broncos with 12.9 points per game. Sophomore guard Brooke Pahukoa sneaked into double figures on the year with her 16-point performance against New Mexico in the tournament final. Former Boilermaker Camille Redmon holds down the fort down low, at 6.9 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.
