FIBA World Championships Day 2 - Canada vs Turkey Game Recap

Canada falls to 1-1 in pool play after loss to Turkey (video via FIBA).

Team Canada suffered a setback after they lost to host Turkey by a final score of 55-44. Turkey has now clinched a spot in the quarterfinals while Canada has some decisions to make when they face their next opponent France on Tuesday.

If they win their game against France, they have to face Team USA in quarterfinals. If they lose the game, they face Australia in quarterfinals. Either way, it's a tough match up for Team Canada as the teams are ranked #1 and #2 in the world, respectively. Along those lines, it might also be worth noting that France has a similar decision to make about what the best path forward would be.

Team Canada did battle against Turkey yesterday and were close throughout most of the game, but in the fourth quarter, Turkey flipped a switch and outscored Canada 24-13 to close out the win at home. Miranda Ayim led Canada with a game-high 5 rebounds and 6 points.

This was one of the low scoring games and painful to watch at certain times, but Turkey's size created problems for Canada which made it even more difficult to score. Turkey proved so far that in this tournament they are a formidable team and Canada just didn't have enough to compete with them.

Team Canada's last game of pool play is on Tuesday, Sept 30th at 2:15 pm EST against France. That will be an interesting game as noted above. You can watch the game live on NBATV Canada, ESPN3 and online through the website.
