The Indiana Fever is now just 20 minutes from its third Eastern Conference title in six seasons. Tamika Catchings, Lin Dunn, and friends lead Elena Delle Donne and the Chicago Sky, 39-31
The main stat that is separating these teams is rebounding. So far, the Fever is winning the battle in this area, 25-14. Erlana Larkins is also just one rebound away from a double double with 11 points and 9 rebounds.
Second, Elena Delle Donne hasn't played well this game. She only had 2 points on 1-of-5 shooting and has just one rebound and one block. She has a sore back and was getting stretched on the sidelines, so this may be partly why her performance isn't on point.
If there's one area where Chicago has the advantage, the Sky has nine assists on 11 made baskets. Indiana only has four assists on 13 made baskets. So if the rebounding battle evens out, this could make things interesting.
And here's an interesting stat too, at least when you look at WNBA history:
In the Washington Mystics' last four playoff berths, they lost in the first round each time in 2009, 2010, 2013, and 2014. The team that defeated them went on to win the Eastern Conference Championship.
We'll see if the Sky can come back, but I'm calling this a Fever win regardless of whether this Mystics trend holds up.
