It's extremely rare to see NBA Commissioner Adam Silver wear anything besides a suit and tie. (Hey, that's a song!) But he was in a USA Basketball T-shirt and shorts Saturday when he challenged San Antonio Stars guard/San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon (and NBA legend Dikembe Mutombo) to take part in the ALS Association's Ice Bucket Challenge, where someone gets a bucket of ice water poured over him or herself:
I know, this challenge sounds really familiar. It's an exact copy of the #Chillin4Charity challenge which was done by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund but for a different charity.
And women's basketball fans took notice as the #ALSIceBucketChallenge was becoming a fad across the Internet:
and no one will know this whole thing started for @KayYowFund and called #Chillin4Charity @AnthonyMcCarron @AVSNY good cause but #knockoff

I love how dumping icewater on yourself for charity is apparently a new thing. WBB's been #Chillin4Charity for two months now, keep up.

Im glad the movement has spread and is now in the mens game and helping another great cause but the #Chillin4Charity are much better IMHO

And this article from The Verge (one of our partner sites on Vox Media) probably isn't going to make their fans feel much better either, even though it doesn't exactly credit Pete Frates, the 29 year old former Boston College baseball player with ALS, as the founder of the movement.
Regardless about the origins, if the WNBA did #Chillin4Charity for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, they'll do the #IceBucketChallenge better than anyone else for the ALS Foundation.
So... did Hammon do the challenge? Of course!
In her video, she challenged Spurs guard Tony Parker, Spurs assistant coach Chip Engelland, and former WNBA Ruth Riley.
She isn't the only WNBA figure to get drenched.
Indiana Fever forward Tamika Catchings also took part in this video from the Indy Star:
Considering that she already got drenched for #Chillin4Charity, she deserves some more props.
We'll keep updating this post as more WNBA folks take part in the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS.
UPDATE at 8:15 p.m. ET - Candace Parker's dogs took part in it.
Update on August 19: Washington Mystics guard Bria Hartley has done her part:
