Stars vs. Dream Final Score: Atlanta overcomes late scare, wins 81-79

The San Antonio Stars were losing for most of this game. In fact they were down by 14, losing 77-63 to the Eastern Conference leading Atlanta Dream with 3:37 left in the game.

Then Shameka Christon went into beast mode, scoring 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Two of those three point shots came during a 11-0 run, where Christon scored the first eight of those points, and Becky Hammon capped it off with a three point shot of her own. That made the score 77-74 with 57 seconds left.

But after some fouls which put the Dream at the line, it ultimately wasn't enough, as the Dream escaped with a 81-79 victory.

In the first three quarters of the game, Atlanta outrebounded San Antonio, 36-23, and as a team, they had 18 assists compared with nine turnovers. The Stars on the other hand had 13 assists compared with 12 turnovers. In addition, the Dream was shooting close to 50%, while the Stars were shooting just above 40%.

Statswise, the Atlanta frontcourt of Angel McCoughtry-Sancho Lyttle-Erika de Souza all scored double digits after the first three quarters and were a major catalyst for the win. In addition, Celine Dumerc had seven assists for the night, though she didn't score.

The Stars' bench players had the best performances for San Antonio. In addition to Christon, who scored 14 points for the game, Jia Perkins and Shenise Johnson scored 17 and 10 points, respectively. You can view the box score here.

Give credit to the Stars for making the comeback that they made. However, when the Dream is dominating the boards, and playing efficient ball, it's going to be hard to stop them.
