Lynx vs. Mystics Final Score: Minnesota has wire-to-wire 75-65 win over Washington

Heading into this game, the Minnesota Lynx have lost three of their last four games, two of them to the Phoenix Mercury. But we also have to keep in mind that they have lost Rebekkah Brunson, Monica Wright, and Dev Peters to injury early on, and they're now starting to get a feel for things now that Peters and Wright are back.

Either way, Minnesota got back on the right track by taking care of a Washington Mystics team that is just not winning games right now, 75-65. The win also settles a score with the one team that swept them in the 2013 regular season.

The deciding run of the game was a 15-2 run the Lynx made on the Mystics during the first four minutes of the second quarter. The Mystics missed their first four shots during that run, and they also had two straight turnovers, which the Lynx responded with baskets. So that turned a 20-16 game to a 35-18 game which was looking quite ugly. Like, 20 to 30 point loss ugly.

Washington tried to make things interesting and got the scoring margin down to single digits at various points. But Minny consistently found an answer. After Monique Currie made two free throws to start the fourth quarter and make the game 58-50, the Lynx went on a 7-1 run from there to make it 65-51 with 6:49 left. By then, there was no chance of the Mystics coming back.

Yeah, the Mystics got it within nine, 69-60 with 2:33 left in the game, but Tan White had a shot clock beating running jump shot soon after. But really, this game was over before then.

For individual stats, Maya Moore led all scorers with 20 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds. In addition, Seimone Augustus added 19 more points, while Lindsay Whalen scored 12 more and added seven assists (with NO turnovers) for the Lynx. Kia Vaughn had the best night for the Mystics individually where she scored 10 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Then Kara Lawson added 14 points and was efficient from the three point line. Kalana Greene also saw some extended minutes. Jelena Milovanovic also showed up after not playing at all during Washington's last two games.

Give the Mystics credit for fighting back every time the Lynx threatened to make this game a 20 or 30 point blow out. But it just wasn't enough when the best team in the league was playing its "A" game.

For the Lynx, this is a good start to a five-game stretch where they have four out of five at home, including this win. They finish their two game homestand against the Indiana Fever on Sunday and finish their June schedule with a home-and-home against the Seattle Storm. The last game in this stretch is a home game on Thursday, July 3 against the San Antonio Stars.
