Dumerc added to Dream roster, Orekhova waived

French point guard Celine Dumerc has touched down in Atlanta and has passed her physical. To make space for her on the roster, the Dream have waived Inga Orekhova.

Dream fans have been waiting for Celine Dumerc to touch down in Atlanta, and she is finally here, according to this press release by the Atlanta Dream. She will be ready for Tuesday's game against the Sparks.

Dumerc, who was placed on the suspended list while fulfilling her overseas playing commitments to her French club team, arrived in the United States on Sunday and passed her physical Monday. To make room for her on the roster, the Dream waived rookie guard Inga Orekhova.

Dumerc, a two-time EuroLeague All-Star, just completed a French League season that saw her help Bourges Basket reach the semifinals of the EuroLeague championships as well as the finals of the French League playoffs. She averaged 8.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists in 31 French League games, and 8.9 points, 4.9 boards and 4.9 assists in 18 EuroLeague contests.

The five-foot, seven-inch lefty is also the captain of the French national team and led her team in scoring while guiding France to the silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics. She was named the 2012 FIBA Europe Women’s Player of the Year following her Olympic performance.

This means that Inga Orekhova's WNBA dream will have to be put on hold, at least for a little while. The South Florida player was selected with the #18 overall pick by Atlanta in the 2014 Draft, but only got to play two games and seven minutes, scoring no points.
